Working with Wallpapers: Future directions in Wallpaper Research and Interpretation
Wrest Park, Silsoe, Bedfordshire, Wednesday 14th September 2016.
The ‘Working with Wallpapers’ symposium has been organised by the Wallpaper History Society and English Heritage to explore current interests and research in the theme of wallpapers, and is drawn from a wide range of disciplines from academic studies to practical conservation and heritage management. The day symposium will feature new historical research into 18th, 19th and 20th century wallpapers with academics and historians, as well as practical case studies of conservation and re-interpretation projects in a range of different historic interiors from the prestigious to the commonplace. This is an opportunity for all those interested in wallpapers, including museum and heritage professionals, students and wallpaper enthusiasts to explore, discuss and exchange new information on this fascinating subject.
Attendees will also be given the opportunity to visit the wallpapered rooms at Wrest Park, featuring the beautiful Chinese export wallpaper from the late 18th century and a stunning version of the French panoramic paper ‘Eldorado’. Refreshments and lunch will be available and there will be a wine reception afterwards. All are welcome.
