
Artists and makers: Allyson McDermott
Allyson McDermott is one of the world’s leading authorities on conserving and recreating historic wallpapers. She is a former Head of Sotheby’s Conservation Studio, Advisor to the National Trust and Chair of the Historic Interiors Group of ICON.
A conservator, scientist, historian, designer and artist/maker, Allyson McDermott has spent a lifetime conserving original historic interiors and researching designs, materials and traditional techniques.
She heads up an amazing team of talented conservators and designers, investigating, conserving, restoring and recreating important historic interiors such as The Royal Pavilion at Brighton, Kensington Palace and The Palaces of Westminster as well as Museums, Royal Palaces, Historic Houses and private homes.
Allyson's studios in Cumbria and Herefordshire hold an important archive of both European and Oriental designs dating from the 17th – 20th Century, any of which can be recreated to order, often combining historic patterns and techniques with contemporary ideas and colourways.
She offers a wide range of specialist services including: investigation, research and historic interior design; conservation and restoration of original historic wallpapers and interiors; bespoke wallpaper design and printing; and inspirational collections of Chinese, historical and contemporary wallpapers.
