Nuthatch Grey is an independent surface pattern studio creating hand-drawn wallpapers inspired by wildlife, the countryside and historic decoration. Based in rural Staffordshire, every design begins as an original pencil drawing or watercolour before being carefully developed into a seamless repeat and printed in small batches here in the UK. Living in a Grade II listed home has only deepened a lifelong fascination with historic interiors and the stories told through pattern, colour and craftsmanship.

Inspired by the repeating designs of the Arts & Crafts movement, particularly the work of William Morris, Nuthatch Grey combines traditional illustration with a fresh, often whimsical approach to pattern. Nature provides endless inspiration, from garden birds and woodland creatures to seasonal flowers and landscapes, creating wallpapers that feel both timeless and characterful. In 2026, the studio’s Sicilian Snake wallpaper featured in the final of BBC One’s Interior Design Masters, bringing Nuthatch Grey’s hand-drawn wallpapers to a wider audience..
