Meet the maker – Deborah Bowness at Sussex Craft week Fri 20th/Sat 21st June

WHS member and wallpaper maker Deborah Bowness is opening her print room as part of Sussex Craft Week, offering a rare opportunity to visit her in her working studio as she celebrates 25 years of wallpaper making.

This event is the first of several to mark this significant milestone. Over her 25-year career, Deborah has developed an innovative approach to wallpaper design, combining trompe l’oeil photomontage with hand screen-printing. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in permanent collections including the V&A, Cooper Hewitt New York, and Musée des Arts Décoratifs Paris. She has been commissioned by institutions such as Sotheby’s, the David Parr House, Paul Smith, and Universal Records. Deborah continues to run her independent print room in St Leonards-on-Sea, producing wallpapers for private and public interiors worldwide.


During your visit, you will have the opportunity to explore an extensive archive of past and present work, featuring unique prints, works in progress, prototypes, and test pieces. You’ll also be able to speak directly with Deborah about her creative process. Selected archive pieces and original artworks will be available to purchase.


The Print Room is located in Unit 1, VIP HOUSE on the Ponswood Industrial Estate in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex.
