Wall to Wall: new wallpaper acquisitions

The tour provided WHS members and friends with an opportunity to see magnificent French arabesque panels c1795, decorated leather, 18th- and 19th-century patterned paper and original designs by Walter Crane. There was also 20th-century glitz, space ships and artists’ wallpapers, including Dorothy Carr/Sarah Firmin’s 'Off Centre', printed by Cole & Son c1959-60. Christine Woods led the tour and it was her last as the Whitworth’s Wallpaper Curator. Participants also had a special opportunity to hear from Dorothy Carr and Sarah Firmin who attended the event and answered questions over tea and cakes.
